Speaker 1:

Hey folks, this is your old host, patrick the Alien. Welcome to Fractured, where we confront the ups and downs of life. It's like therapy without the certifications. Welcome, my friends, to episode number three, yet to be titled. It's smarter for me that way, I've noticed lately.

Speaker 1:

I'd like to start off with an article submitted to me by my closest friend, who I shall refer to from now on as Fishbait. I've gone to great lengths to verify this story and it's true. You can fact check it for yourselves. This gentleman's name was and I use that with caution was L dog sled 1,000 kilometers across Greenland's ice cap in the 1910s, killed a wolf. Yes, I'm going to have some family members and friends make fun of me for saying that word, because I can't say it properly.

Speaker 1:

Wolf, with his bare hands, escaped a Nazi death camp at the height of the Third Reich, amputated his own gangrene toes with a pair of pliers and starred in an Oscar-winning movie which was loosely based on his own autobiography. He was also the fifth person to win the jackpot in the game show, the $64,000 Question. He published 34 books, founded two adventure clubs and his biography was called the Vagrant Viking. You need more proof. You say Check this out, friends and neighbors. One time he was caught in a blizzard and ended up being buried alive in an inescapable cocoon of ice, so tightly packed around him he could barely move around him. He could barely move. After 30 hours trapped in this behemoth, he escaped certain death by molding his own feces into a knife and used it to carve his way out through a solid wall of ice, then crawled another three hours back to base camp like something out of Revenant meets Everest meets Shawshank Redemption.

Speaker 1:

How about that, boys and girls? Wasn't that a fun story? Now, that leaves me in my part in all of this for today. No sad story. This I thought I was going to give you my brave heart tale of what happened over this past weekend. But no fish bait. At the 11th hour, like always, must throw this long bomb and ruin it.

Speaker 1:

For me, I had this heroic tale of this brave man who was in dire agony. I took matters into his own hands to solve the problem, and then this story comes along and makes me look like a smurf here. Here, guys, let me tell you what happened. I had this tooth in the back of my skull. It was driving me mad. Like the outer nebula was safe. Yes, a normal rational person would go the route of a dentist, but I had found they liked to turn it into a three-trip episode, some pocket money and more grief than I had time for. So I went another route. I chose a more sensible solution. I chose to go out to the garage, grab a pair of pliers and, before you say anything, it was a brand new pair of pliers, never been used. I took a long, deep breath, took a couple of wiggles back and forth and then I made a yank. Yeah, I went to the ground, almost blacked out, but the tooth came out and I feel much better now. Thank God it's out.

Speaker 1:

But that's my story of adversity. Maybe you've guessed the subject matter. Yeah, it's adversity. The definition of adversity is a state of instance, of continued difficulty or misfortune. I know it was, and still is, a major factor in my life. I thought it'd be a good topic of discussion. By now. You know a little about me. You can guess I've had my fair share of adversity. I don't really want to go down that dark alley today, if that's okay with you guys. Adversity can come in many ways, shapes and sizes Physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, financial. We should remember, though, that through it, virtually, we can grow stronger, more resilient. It can even help us develop new skills to be better and to perform in this crazy world that we're part of. A side note, just a minute. I wasn't going to do this originally, but if we're going to talk about adversity, you need to hear a better story that rings much closer to home and means much more to this sappy old alien. I'm just going to give you a short version for now. I'll give you more on an episode in the future. Maybe my champion, my underdog, my hero, my daughter Skeletor. Nobody knows adversity like her. My hero, my daughter Skeletor Nobody knows adversity like her, not even the great vagrant Viking.

Speaker 1:

She almost died at birth. Her intestines were backing up into her lungs. She was born with cystic fibrosis. It was 1989. They had told us probably she would not live long. They gave us a list of possible side diseases that she could possibly get over time with CF. Our daughter got them all Liver disease, diabetes, nasal polyps, gerd, allergies to mold. She wound up having two separate double lung transplants. One of the lung transplants she got wound up having cancer in it. She had to battle cancer, beat it. She fights every day. She was told she would never graduate high school. She wound up being dual enrolled in high school. She graduated high school with high honors. She went on to graduate college with honors. She fights adversity to this day. She's in the gym every day. She ignores the expiration date given to her. She is a one-of-a-kind hero. She's a pain in my butt, but she's one-of-a-kind and friends. That's what overcoming adversity is all about's. That's really where I want to stop for the day when it comes to adversity.

Speaker 1:

Now moving on for some good news, folks. The year was 1961. Ed Dwight had hoped to be the first black astronaut in space, but he was not picked. Now, at 90 years, young Dwight was finally going to get his chance to experience space on board Blue Origin's upcoming mission to Earth's atmosphere. Dwight was selected by President John F Kennedy in 1961 to enter an Air Force training program known as the Path to NASA's Astronaut Program. He was picked now to go on board Blue Origin's upcoming mission.

Speaker 1:

You must know, of course, that this is a big deal. He's 90 years old. He's going to get to go experience an onboard Blue Origins mission into Earth's atmosphere. That's a big deal, folks. I'm very happy for him. If you have good news. Please share it with me. I would love to share as much good news as possible.

Speaker 1:

Now upcoming my favorite part. You must know by now Of course you don't know because I have no structure to this show it's time for Pat's Ponders. I have three this week. Number one if 75% of all accidents happen within five miles of home, why not move 10 miles away? Huh, ever think of that? Number two what happens if you get addicted to therapy? How's it treated? Hmm, and drum roll, please. Number three have you ever noticed when you blow on a dog's face, he gets mad at you, but the first thing he does when you put him in the car is stick his head out the window. And those are my ponders for today. Folks, if you have some ponders you'd like to share with me, please send them to me. This week's ponders were not mine. I stole them all from online, from various sites. Like I said, if you have some ponders you'd like to share with me, please send them to me.

Speaker 1:

We're going to move on to the aliens' picks for TVs and movies. This week I didn't have a lot going on in TV this week. I have a few picks. I was interested in a documentary I caught, called Till Murder, do Us Part. It was on Netflix, a three-part series. A couple was murdered. A young girl and her boyfriend were arrested for it. It was a he said, she said thing. They both confessed and then they both turned on each other, and then you stay confused all the way through it. It was something like I'd never seen before, though it was really really quite interesting, quite intriguing. I think you would enjoy that.

Speaker 1:

I went on to see the Roast of Tom Brady on Netflix. It's pretty much exactly what you think it would be. It was raunchy, kind of funny. I'd give it about a six. I would say he was paid $25 million by Netflix to let people dog him. You know about his ex-wife cheating on him, so you know you have to give him credit and he got paid well for it. So what do you expect? Number three I have not seen yet, but I've heard a lot of good things from a lot of people. It's called Dark Matter on Apple TV. Like I said, I have not seen it myself, but I've been told good things, so I'm going to start watching that this week. I look forward to seeing that Now.

Speaker 1:

On the movies. I look forward to seeing that. Now on to movies. My wife and I went to see two movies in the past week. The two movies we went to see are the Fall Guy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and these are my two reviews. We will start with the Fall Guy. Fall Guy, I would rather drag my naked body belly down through multiple piles of Florida fire ramp beds than have to be subjected to that kind of torture again.

Speaker 1:

It was like trying. If it was trying to be a comedy, it failed. If it was trying to be an action movie, it failed. If it was trying to be a romantic comedy, it also failed. If it was trying to be an action movie, it failed. If it was trying to be a romantic comedy, it also failed. The last 10 minutes of the movie were worth watching and that was it. And this movie was actually filmed. The director was an ex-stuntman. It just it didn't work on any level whatsoever. This movie just it was hideous. This movie was just bad all over. I mean just terrible. I'm sorry to say that, because I was really looking forward to it. There was just nothing there.

Speaker 1:

Now, moving on Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, I'm going to try to give an unbiased review of this, because anybody that knows me knows that I'm a Planet of the Apes geek. I have been ever since I was a kid. Anything that has to do with Planet of the Apes I can tell you frontwards and backwards about Lunchboxes, tv shows, movies, masks, anything I absolutely love and adore. And a little fun fact the director of this movie graduated from the tiny little rural junior senior high school that this alien attended and I'm going gonna announce it to you just because I'm that proud of it crescent city junior senior high school of crescent city, florida. And when I tell you it's tiny, I mean it's tiny. It's a rural junior-senior high school in the woods. Basically, I mean it is tiny, it's little. He went on to graduate from Florida State University, which is his only downfall. I mean he should have went to the University of Florida and became a chomper, you know. But you know he can't have everything in the world.

Speaker 1:

This movie takes place many generations in the future, well past Caesar, and deals with the continued conflict between apes and men and apes and apes and what they have learned and will they advance. I enjoyed it. I'd probably give it about an eight. I thought it was pretty good. I really liked the way they enjoyed it. I'd probably give it about an eight. I thought it was pretty good. I really liked the way they filmed it. You know I really enjoyed that movie. I thought that was really worth watching.

Speaker 1:

If you have movies that you've seen or TV shows, please once again send them in to me. Let me know about it. This only works with your help. We're going to move on to book reviews, something a little different. This time. I decided to take a look at things through a woman's perspective, so the reviews will be courtesy of two women. I appreciate one being the Dominator, the other one being Freckles.

Speaker 1:

First up is one of three books recommended by Freckles, who, by the way, is mother of my one and only grandson, known here on the podcast for now on as Poe. Coming up as number one is the Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict. This book is a non-fiction account of the personal librarian to John D Rockefeller no-transcript. I look forward to going through that myself. Hopefully I can find that in an audible version. Second up from Freckles is the Woman by Kristen Hanna. This book is an account of a nurse who served in Vietnam and is about what she saw there, how she was treated by the soldiers there and by the public when she came home. This is a different take on the Vietnam story. This also should be a very good read.

Speaker 1:

And the third book from Freckles is Little Liars by an author I know very well, mitch Albom. He's a great author. This book is about a young Jewish boy during the roundup in World War II. He is befriended by a German soldier who is tricked, or convinced, to help him get the Jews on the trains and you know and of course by now you know where they went. Later on it's about how he has to deal with it. That also should be a good read. And the last but least on my book reviews is from the Dominator, and this is from David Baldacci, and the book is the Winner. And this book is about a dirt poor young mother who has been given the opportunity guaranteed to win a $100 million jackpot and all she must do is change her identity and leave the country. But of course there's a lot more to the story. That sounds like an interesting read as well. These all sound like good books to read. It should give you something to look forward to.

Speaker 1:

Also, just like everything else, share what you have what you got on your bookshelves. You know what you're reading right now. I'd be curious to find out what everybody's looking at right now. We're going to move on to music and, just like our books, I did something a little different this time. I changed it up and I got some outside help. I sure hope you like this part of the podcast. I'm having some fun with it. This episode is no different. I tried something different, you know. So shout outs to the Dominator and Skeletor for their input. I take no credit or blame for these, but please, you know, look these up, take a listen to them. Tell me what you think.

Speaker 1:

Like always share your list with the alien Number one Adele. Easy on Me. Number two Beyonce and Miley Cyrus. Two Most Wanted Number three we have an oldie. It's Styx Snowblind. Number three we have a new one for you to look up. It's by Oliver Tree, alien Boy and I myself. I have a dedication to someone who has been on my mind a lot these last two weeks, one of my favorite people in the world and he's really been on my heart a lot. This one's for Poe. I hope you discover this oldie for yourself. You may find it a little hokey, but he loves this song and I just wanted to throw it on the list. It's from Marty Robbins, big Iron. I love you, poe.

Speaker 1:

I would like to say thank you to a special fan up there in New Hampshire who we will refer to as the giver. I received an unexpected package in the mail last week. It was my first piece of appreciation mail. It was a UFO and a new head from my collection Almost brought this alien down to three knees, if you will. You know this alien has three knees. I was a bit slimy, to say the least. Thank you so much. I've always been your biggest fan.

Speaker 1:

Now a free bit of local advertising for some hardworking ladies on Facebook. First I'd like to throw out to Jerrica Conger, who owns Hidden Pages. This is basically a blind book club. It's quite an interesting idea. She's got my wife hooked already. You know pretty much self-explanatory. I think a lot of people will find that interesting. You can find her on Facebook. Check her out.

Speaker 1:

Next we have Mary Jane Knowles-Hilton. She makes custom tumbler cups. Yeah, a lot of people make them, but she's fast, and every time I've come up with a crazy idea for a cup she always finds the design that I say, I just come up with the words and she finds the design and she has really good deals on multiple cups. So I encourage you to look her up. That's Mary-Jane Knowles Hilton. She's also on Facebook. Again, I don't get any money for this. I just want good people to do well. Sometimes good people deserve a break. That's what I'm here for Good people helping good people.

Speaker 1:

I'd like to do a few shout-outs now. We're now represented in six countries. That's a big deal to me. The US, of course, but also India, malta, australia, denmark and the UK. That's thanks to you and I appreciate that immensely. Some shout outs to a few of my states and city listeners. Now. Texas, with Houston, dallas and Katy. Texas Thank you for standing tall on the saddle. A lot of people don't know. I lived in El Paso for a little bit of time. I appreciate you guys out in Texas.

Speaker 1:

State of Maine, with Sanford and Madison. I love you guys. I'll see you up at the camp. You people know what that means. New Hampshire, with Concord and Golftown this is the aliens' old stomping grounds for 7 years. Best people and country in the world. I love it up there. It's beautiful. Massachusetts, the big winner right now. Boston, fitchburg, dracut, lemesa, these listeners everything greatest bunch of aliens I didn't mean to say aliens, I mean alien supporters I've ever met. I love you guys. Much love is given to you. I absolutely appreciate everything you guys have done for me.

Speaker 1:

I've not been on Facebook much in the last two weeks because I've been working a lot trying to get this development of this podcast going. I apologize, I know I should be spending more time with you guys, but I really want to perfect this podcast. I know it's got a lot more to be done and I'm trying to get there. I really am. And also my wife was on vacation last week and you know I got to keep her happy and that's a task. I promise I'll be flooding the page real soon. Please, guys, continue to stick with me. Watch this thing grow, keep listening, downloading it, sharing it. I have lots of freebies coming real soon. I got a lot of stuff ordered. Wife's probably going to kill me for spending a lot of money. I know it's coming. Once she sees receipts she's going to be mad at me. I'm sure of that. I'm starting to slowly get some feedback on the podcast and I'm listening. It'll get better with your participation, I promise.

Speaker 1:

I'm trying to make everything easier. The Skeletor. She shortened everything up, you know. So we tried to make everything easier. Now it's one-stop shopping. Guys, I'll go through it with you. The quickest way for you to find everything alien-related is to go to linktreecom. Forward slash Patrick, thea-t-r-i-c-k-t-h-e-a-l-i-e-n. Linktree. Forward slash Patrick, the Alien. It will also give you a link to the podcast site, buzzsprout, as well as all major platforms, including Apple, amazon, spotify, many others. Access to my email. I encourage you to bookmark it. That way you don't have to go through all the rigmarole every time a podcast comes out. Now I'm sure you're tired of my voice. I've run on a little bit longer than the last two podcasts, so we're going to call it a day and, like always, guys, like I say at the end of every episode, be good to one another.
